About David W. Spicer

David W. Spicer received his Bachelor of Science in Journalism in 1971 from the University of Florida and was awarded his Master's Degree in Education in 1976, also from the University of Florida. He continued his education and received his Juris Doctorate from Florida State University College of Law in 1980.After receiving his law degree, Mr. Spicer worked with McFarlain, Bobo, & Cassedy, P.A, as a litigation partner in insurance defense, primarily medical malpractice, products liability and administrative law, from 1980-1990. He then co-founded Bobo, Spicer, Ciotoli, P.A., where he was the managing partner and ran a statewide insurance litigation practice, primarily medical malpractice, nursing home litigation, products liability and administrative law from 1990-2002.  He then formed the firm of Spicer, Romaguera, Baker & Dawson, P.A. with offices in Palm Beach Gardens and Orlando practicing in the areas of personal injury, medical malpractice, nursing home litigation and physician representations.

In 2003, Mr. Spicer was recruited to join one of Florida’s premier personal injury firms, Montgomery & Larson, LLP where he practiced for 2-1/2 years as a senior litigator in a statewide Plaintiff's personal injury practice.  He was the lead attorney on major wrongful death and catastrophic injury cases resulting in a number of million dollar plus verdicts and settlements. 

In 2005, Mr. Spicer opened the Law Office of David W. Spicer, P.A. in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, where he specializes in personal injury, family law, and physician representation in corporate, credentialing, and licensure matters.Mr. Spicer has twenty-eight years experience in all phases of insurance defense litigation, products liability, administrative law and health-care representation. He has represented major medical malpractice insurance carriers, hospitals, physician groups, medical executive committees, nursing home insurers and major liability carriers in negligence and products liability actions. He obtained the reversal of a medical malpractice jury verdict and won million-dollar recovery in the largest medical malpractice fraud case in the United States.  Mr. Spicer no longer represents insurance companies and focuses on the representation of individuals. Mr. Spicer is a Board Certified Civil Trial Lawyer and has been awarded the top rating “AV”  for 15 years by Martindale-Hubbell, the nations top attorney rating service. He is a former Special Prosecutor for the Florida Board of Medicine and the Judicial Qualification Commission. In addition to running his own firm, Mr. Spicer is currently an Adjunct Professor at the Palm Beach Community College.  In recognition of obtaining verdicts in excess of One Million Dollars, Mr. Spicer was selected for membership in the Million Dollar Advocates Forum which is awarded to less than one percent of United States lawyers who have obtained million and multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements.

Sandy Hughes was raised in South Florida and went back to college in 1986 and received her Bachelors Degree from Florida Atlantic University in 1990.  She began her career in the legal field in 1975 working as a legal secretary for the Law Firm of Stover, Stoker, Medlin & Hmielewski in Fort Lauderdale.

After relocating to West Palm Beach in 1985, she began working with Charles C. Powers who brought her with him to the Law Firm of Robert Montgomery where she worked with the partners Rebecca Larson and Robert Montgomery for over 14 years.  When the opportunity arose to work with David W. Spicer, who previously worked at Robert Montgomery’s office and was opening his own firm, she jumped at the opportunity.  This was a chance to grow with the Law Office of David W. Spicer and work with one of the most respected lawyers in the community.

Sandy’s diverse legal background and participation in large multi-million dollar cases from the initial contact with the client through the trial and verdict process has brought much diversity to the Law Office of David W. Spicer.  Sandy is well-known for her rapport with her clients and her knowledge of the legal process.   Her knowledge of the medical field, insurance coverages, and her ability to work with clients, peers, and associates in the field has brought personal appeal and professionalism to the Law Office of David W. Spicer.

Sandy has been involved in the preparation of such cases as the Estate of Barry Grunow v. Nathaniel Brazil/Valor Corporation which resulted in a $27 Million Dollar Verdict; many medical malpractice cases with multi million dollars verdicts; automobile verdicts in excess of $5 million dollars; and products liability cases in the millions.

Married to her childhood sweetheart for 39 years and her love of her family has given Sandy the edge when it comes to working in the family law portion of David Spicer’s law practice.  Her compassionate, sympathetic, outgoing nature and professionalism has brought a new dimension to the family law practice.

She is a member of the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers, now known as the Florida Justice Association since 1991 and the Palm Beach County Bar Association.  Since 1999 she has been a team leader for the American Heart Association and is active in the community in the annual holiday toy run, food drive, and participates in the walk-a-thons on behalf of the American Cancer Society.
